New Toy!!!

So, As you know, I do a lot of scrapbooking.  Card Making is something new to me,and I do love doing it, but my first love is to the pictures.  So, for my birthday, my husband surprised me beyond my wildest dreams when he got me my new toy

Introducing my new Cricut Explore Air 2!

I was hesitant to want one of the newest machines that Cricut was coming out with.  Mainly that you always need to have an internet connection to even use this.  And, as I just found out, unless I'm not doing it right, you can ONLY use cartridges that you have linked to your account, you cannot use a cartridge that is not linked to your account.  I find this strange, because it's a physical cartridge, you should be able to use it, but that's another story.  This was found out because I'm having trouble linking one of my newest cartridges because it says it's already linked but it was new when I got it.

BUT, the best part about this pretty mint green machine, is that I can cut images from my own computer as well as my system fonts.  Check out what I've cut out so far that I don't have cartridges for!

My son is on the Orioles this season.
TEEN TITANS GO!!!

This is only my first time playing with the new features, so I cannot wait to try more!
I'll be sure to post once I do!
And, I'm working on my Disney World album.  Here's my latest page, still a work in progress (WIP) but it's coming along nicely!
(and probably some Say Cheese elements in there as well)

Its Been A While

I've decided I want to try to start blogging again, focusing on crafty things.  Nothing fancy, nothing flashy, just what I'm doing with my Scrapbooking and my newest hobby, Card Making!  I have a few things to show you now, but I'll get this thing going and do some cool stuff.

I'll get better at product description and pictures in future posts.  For now, here's what I've been doing

I got a Lawn Fawn stamp set for Christmas just in time to make Valentine's day cards!
I'm just starting on my Copic Coloring, but it's sure fun!

I'm just now starting to scrapbook my WDW trip for Jake's Birthday in 2015.  Here's the title page!
I used my cricut for this one!  Mickey and Friends and Micky Font
The silhouettes of the parks were pieced together mostly from shapes from the Disney carts and misc shapes.  The tree is also all cricut, and the ornaments and lights were cut in heavy white card stock and then colored with Copics.  Turned out so awesome that I did the gifts that way too!  Saves time looking for all the paper in the right colors!

I hope to be back sharing my crafty side soon!  And, i'll probably throw some family news and happenings along the way too.

Have a Crafty Day!

The Scrapbook Retreat

So, when I tell people I'm going to a scrapbook retreat, I often get the response, "What is that?"  Well, lemme tell ya...

Imagine three days of nothing but doing something you really love!  What a retreat is is I get to spend three days, half of a Friday, all day Saturday, and half a Sunday with my friends and usually my mother, scrapbooking.  Yes, you know... SCRAPBOOKING!  I get to sort pictures, put them on colorful papers, use my cricut, and get as many pages finished as I can in the 48+ hours I have away from home.  All usually sleep deprived from staying up too late the night before scrapbooking, or enjoying such yummy goodness as a Margarita or a nice glass of wine or rum and coke.  I have several friends who love scrapbooking as much as I do, and so when we get together, it's a fun filled weekend of CRAZY, sweet, sad, and drama filled stories!  This past weekend was just that. FUN!

Packing!  We packed up the night before.  When you go to a retreat, you don't want to leave anything behind!  So, needless to say, we have a TON of stuff to bring!  I believe I had 6 varying sizes of cases and bags all full of my stuff, and ONE small suitcase.  My mother was the same.  Awesomness!!!  This conveniently fits PERFECTLY in my totally awesome BB (my Jeep) so we are all cool with the load we need to bring.

Friday, my mother and I headed out around 9 am, first stop:  HOBBY LOBBY!  They were having an Awesome sale, 50% off on all their brand of scrapbook products, paper, embellishments, etc.  We got our fill there and then some, then we headed off towards Tomball.  along the way, we pulled over at a Specs for some adult beverage supplies.  Let me just say the guys at the Specs off Cutten Road and 1960 were really great!  Not only did they help us find everything, they packed it up and brought it to the already full Jeep!  NICE!  Then, off to Sams for snacks to share.  We got just enough stuff, crackers, cheeses, fruit, chips and salsa!  And, after stopping at Dairy Queen for lunch on the road, we were headed to Tomball.

Willowcreek Retreats!
We have been here before, and as an avid Retreat goer, we know what's great about this place.  6ft tables EACH, an nice comfy bed to sleep in, a separate kitchen/dining area, our own fridge to use, plenty of plugs for electronics and chargers, AND, to top it all of, the owner has an extensive Cricut Cartridge library!  This is totally awesome for trying out carts to see if you really want them.  I think I want the Winnie the Pooh Font cartridge after this weekend, it's a cute font I didn't think I would ever use!  We got all set up and ready to go and cropped the night away!  Mother went to bed around Midnight, I went to bed just after 1:00 am.  Sweetness!
The retreat center. Only one of these doors opens.  They use it for bad weather storage

Look at ALL THIS SPACE to scrapbook!

The host's house.  They have a lovely pool outside!

Laura's Chair BROKE!  The bolt that held the back on the chair just snapped!
It was her own chair, bummer!  Her hubby fixed it when she got home.

My scrappy space!  Look at all my stuff!

Saturday, well this is a full day, spent mostly in my PJs, chatting, sharing ideas, eating good food and fun snacks, scrapbooking and sorting and scrapbooking again!  I don't know why, but I so love it!  Drinks after dinner, and well, a little too much means pictures are put in the albums upside down, but it was all good fun!  I only made it until 12:30 am that night, but still had a great time!

a work in progress

Mother went to bed first.  Her desk was wrapped.  :)

Sunday morning came too soon, as the room has a black out curtain so you have NO concept of time in the morning.  Slept until 8:00!  That NEVER happens at home!  Anyway, I get mother up around 8:30 and for some reason she thinks its Saturday, and is wondering why everybody is packing!  Funny Lady!

Mother finding her wrapped desk!

After all is said and done, I completed 62 scrapbook pages for Jake's 5th baby album!  Since I'm up to November, I'll be starting Christmas and his birthday next, so almost finished with Jake's First Year!  Oh, and I won a ticket game prize!  A digital art set!  YEY!

Here's to the next one, in January 2014 at Deep Woods Retreat in Smithville!

I just want to say a few nice words about my friend, Jaime Windfont!  She has been a Creative Memories consultant for a while, and I met her by chance thru the CMC locator on the main site back in 2005 I believe.  I picked her because she was listed as a "Unit Leader" which meant she had some downline consultants and probably had a good customer base and when I contacted her via email, she did hold crops.  Now that CM is going under, we are all sad this chapter in our lives is finished.  All good things must come to an end, but we do have hope that the new company coming out of this mess will be great.

Meeting Ms Jaime was a chance meeting that I'm so very glad happened!  She is not only the Best CMC I've ever had (including myself since I was one for a few years in Denver), she is a great friend!  Thank you Jaime for having these retreats to help us all get away once and a while to be with friends and crop til we drop!

I'm also reminded of my Dear Friend, Eriika Amis.  She passed away on 10/10/10, and I miss her so.  We started Scrapbooking together in 1998, after knowing her for about a year.  When I became a CMC she was my best customer!  Never missed a crop or event!  We had so much fun together in those all day crops, I wish we could enjoy retreats together now.  I know she would have LOVED them!  Just know, dear Eriika, I always think of you and that CRAZY Jungle page you did, and let's not forget the 3D fold out Pinata layout!  Also, we made a pact long ago - never title a page "Cute as a button" or "Pickin' Punkies".  I'm still honoring that pact, even though my boy is well, you know...

What's going on with you?

Wow, been a while!  I cannot believe it's already October! So, here's whats up...

Adoption:  Sept 27 was our individual meetings, where Dean and I were interviewed alone with Jan.  We did it all in one day, and wow, that place is really busy!!  However, we both feel it went quite well!  And, I've already volunteered for the Christmas Party they have for the Birthmothers.  And, I'm gonna get people at work to help!  Hey, it's 8 hours of volunteer time!

We have turned in our Birthmother book.  It is so awesome!  I really love it and Dean was very proud of it as well.  So, now we are less than 2 weeks away from our Home visit.  We have a bit more paperwork to do and then we are ready and waiting!  Here's to Hope!

Scrapbooking:  well, I'm going to Croptoberfest on Oct 16th and cannot wait!  I had to miss the August crop, which is the first event from my CMC that I've missed in like 2 years!  Total bummer!!!  Howevr, I am almost finished with my Cancun album.  Hope to finish that at the crop and then I'm going to work on my brother-in-laws Disney album!  it's an 8.5 x 8.5 album, so it's a weird size, but it will be fun!

Crafts:  Being October, I'm all in the mood for crafts!  I made the cutiest candles the other day!  Next I'm going to do some pumpkin deorating!  Saw a really great idea online I'm going to try.  Once I get it all up, I'll post some pictures!

So glad fall finally decided to show up, it's been really cool in the mornings and only getting up to low to mid 80s.  YEY!

TTFN!

The week and stuff

Well, last week was the last week we had to do anything to do with Dean's Hospital Stay!  He came home Aug 17th and was put on a home IV for a total of 14 days.  This ended Friday 8/27, and the nurses came and removed the PICC line and we are glad to put the whole big huge mess behind us and move along!

Thursday we are going to our Adoption counceling meeting we had to reschedule.  We are so ready for this meeting!  And, looking forward to the next step in the adoptions process.  I almost have our birthmother book finished!  We are attending an all day seminar on the 9th, so that should be interesting!

And, this weekend was the first weekend with NO iv so we ran some errands Saturday and smoked some Ribs today, just for fun.  Didn't go too well, came out a bit salty, and we couldn't get the grill at the right temp, so right now we are still in more of the error side of trial and error when it comes to great BBQ. We have made it our mission to make ribs and brisket so good that we could enter a cook off if we want to!  We just have to practice!  Football season is gonna be great!  Cooking in the backyard while listening to football and playing with the dog, sounds like fun, yes?

Here's a couple layouts from my 365 project.

Have a great week!  I know I'm looking forward to a two short weeks in a row!  Have a great Labor Day!

This and That

I'm glad to say this week is almost over!  It's Friday afternoon and tomorrow is going to be sleep catch up and fill out adoption paperwork day!  We are both so tired!  Dean requires an IV drip every 8 hours, so at 6am, 2pm, and 10pm for two hours.  Coming off a week of little sleep that wasn't good to even less sleep that is pretty decent, we are well, out of gas!

Here is my layout for last week.  Hope you like it!

Sunday - Mother's Hospital Lunch
Monday - our feet while waiting for Dean's surgery
Tuesday - Lemon Bar from Dean's lunch
Wednesday - gas for the minivan
Thursday - downtown Houston in a rain shower
Friday - Buddy is the cutiest dog!!!
Saturday - LONG uphill sky walk to the parking garage

Have a great weekend!
