Newton's Nook Challenge 173

So, I finally got one of the funniest Newton's Nook set ever!  Newton Loves Tacos!  I just could not WAIT to make a card with it!  Life kept getting in the way, but I was able to get some good ideas together, then I saw a color challenge from Newton's Nook so I said GAME ON!

What great Colors! Oh look LIME!
LET'S DO THIS!

I was inspired by a couple of my Favorite Designers!

She often does "Ink Smooshing" on her blog, and I love how she takes a piece of plastic (she uses a clear stamp pouch, I usually use the clear plastic wrap that comes on stamp sets) and uses it to see where she is placing the ink, controlled ink smooshing. I of course chose the 4 colors and did 4 different back grounds using the this technique.  Full disclosure, I use this technique ALOT!  Its fun to mix and match the colors, and it makes such interesting backgrounds!

I love Laura and her fun videos.  "Dimension is LIIIIIIFE!!!"
Anyway, She often does backgrounds by taking strips of paper and gluing them down to make patterns.  So, I did that!  See this blog post about 50 seconds into the video she does the "strip it up" technique.

Backgrounds
Green:  I used Mowed Lawn Distress Ink and Zig  Clean Color Real Brush Watercolor markers in 045 Pale Green and 004 FL. Green
Yellow:  Distress Ink in Antique Lenin and Mustard Seed
Orange: Distress Ink in Scattered Straw and Orange Marmalade
Pink: Distress Ink in Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry

I then cut them in as similar as I could diagonal strips and placed them on the table in order so I could pick and choose.  Since I had 4 single backgrounds, I was able to do 3 card backgrounds.  I had to cut a few of them to make them fit, so there wasn't enough to make 4.

I then used my tape runner on a solid piece of card stock and placed the strips in order, and trimmed the edges so they would be a little smaller than a standard A2 card.

Meow-Garitas!
Since I just HAD to use lime, here it is!

Halloween Costume Time!!!! Part 4 - The finishing touches

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND WE MADE IT!!!!

This was a really long process of research on all sorts of cool Cosplay sites and 3D printing sites, but we are finished and all is AWESOME!

The (almost) finished helmets.  I still have to add the face shield and "skuff up" Boba Fett's helmet.
I used some clear face shields we had on hand, may go get some window tint for Halloween, but it will be dark, so I think the clear works for 10 yr old boys!

Jet pack and both helmets done!!!!

And, the Big show, at the 2021 Texas Renaissance Festival - 1001 Dreams Weekend

And, Jake and Liam meeting a fellow Mandalorian!
When we took this picture we said "say this is the way" instead of "cheese" and he said it back and it sounded just like Mando!!!  Was so cool!!!

So, that is IT!  I hope you enjoyed this journey just as much as I did!  I will now resume normal life and crafting and scrapbooking.  OH WAIT!  I have one more costume to make (Fennec) and I'll post when that's done too!

Halloween Costume Time!!!! Part 2 - Beskar Armor

To continue the EPIC costumes that are the Maldalorian...

Here we have the Armor for Mando primed and painted.  I used Plaid FX Flexible Acrylic Paint on this one.  It really turned out awesome!

Armor Pattern - this pattern is for Boba Fett, but I managed to change it up to look something like Mando's armor.  I used the pattern called "Complete Boba Fett Templates (WizardOfFlight Boba style Mandalorian plates – Downloadable)", should be the first one.

Here is Boba Fett's and Mando's "shirts".  I bought t-shirts from Hobby Lobby (since they are like under $3) and cut them to make something that a 10yr old boy would easily put on or take off!

This shoulder armor are my favorite pieces!  The Mandalorian logo is cut from vinyl on my cricut, the Mudhorn is from our new Prusa 3D printer.

All of the armor is attached using E6000 glue.  It does seep thru so be sure to glue it on paper or another surface you don't mind getting sticky.  Also once it's cured (48hrs) it's near impossible to remove!

In the Garage waiting for the glue to dry and cure.

All armor is cut from Black Foam Roll, primed and painted with Acrylic paints.  Fett's logos are all vinyl cut from my cricut.

Be back soon with the helmets and the weapons!

Halloween Costume Time!!!! Part 1 - Helmets

So, I pretend I'm a great customer maker. Like a cosplay level costume maker. I know I'm not.  HOWEVER I feel I'm close and getting better every year!

This year I talked my guys (my son Jake and his friend Liam) into being The Mandalorian (Din Djarin) and Boba Fett. I of course will be Cara Dune. And Liam's sister Missy into being Fennec Shand! It works because Missy's dad loves that character. Long story short, I told them I would make the costumes. This is a HUGE effort, but completely Awesome!

We started off by researching helmet patterns and how to do this thing. We found some excellent resources and got started!

This is Boba Fetts helmet in pieces.
This is EVA 10mm compact craft foam.
EVA foam Cutting tutorial - this lady is soooooo funny and super talented, so is her husband!  Enjoy!

This took a lot of work to cut! Follow that tutorial if you don't have a bandsaw, and you can do it.  Be patient, have fun!

So, after going to the hardware store for supplies, and lots of dremmel to smooth the edges, I put the helmet together

half way there

Right side done!

ALL together now!!

The best part of this is I get to do it all over again with Mando's helmet!!

So after sanding with a Dremel and adding the extra parts and stuff, we have this

AND after sealing and priming...
And repeating the whole thing, we get Mandos helmet
I actually totally forgot to seal this before priming and you can see the caulk filler difference. So I sealed it it as is and primed it again. MUCH BETTER.

So, next step is painting. We just bought an air brush. Let's hope I can figure that out!!

Cards a Plenty!

So, I've been busy lately doing mostly my scrapbooking for my Disney Trip in 2015 (Jake's 5th Birthday).  HOWEVER, my Family reunion was last weekend, and for the silent auction I donated hand made cards, and I worked on these for about 2 weeks!  This was the only thing broght in for the auction, and our Treasurer liked them so much, she bought them!  YES!

I won this stamp set from Nina Marie's Blog, and I shamelessly copied these cards, so not my original ideas.
They are cute though!!
Copic coloring on Fox and Owl and clouds
Water color with Distress Inks

Saw this stamp set on sale at Hobby Lobby, had to have it!  However, I found that it worked really well with no line coloring!  I tried this 3 times before getting it "right".  Copic coloring for beginners!  I'm getting better!

When I first got interested in stamping and card making, I would watch Lawn Fawn videos every day they posted a new one, and went into the back posts and watched as many as I could!  Love Lawn Fawn!

Shaker card from various sequins and beads from when I used to do all those felt applique Christmas decorations.  Copic Coloring.

Made this when I first got this stamp set!  SO CUTE!
Copic Coloring (flamingos), pigment ink stamping (trees and heart), distress ink background
Ranger Ink Glossy Accent

My very first set I got from Lawn Fawn!
Clouds are from my new die set from Paper Smooches
Distress Inked background and Copic Coloring

I love the Lawn Fawn Mini stamp and die sets!  Great prices for very cute stamp sets!
I LOVE this Jack-a-lope!  I also use that sentiment for Santa Cards!
Copic coloring, Distriss Inked background
simple cute stamp set, got it since we got an awesome ice cream maker,
but have yet to gift anybody ice cream, but I'll be ready!
Copic Coloring on this one.

Apparently I'm kind of lucky on the Blog give-aways!  I won a gift card from Avery Elle and got this too cute Wild Birthday set!
Copic coloring on the Hippo and banner, paper die cut background

Simple cards!
The heart was from my Cricut, it's one of the lacy simple or everyday or holiday cards, I can't remember!
Hocus Pocus was from stamps that I had, cat is a wooden stamp, Hocus Pocus is a cheap $1 spot stamp from Michael's. Background is Sizzix Swirl Embossing Folder

These are from stamp sets I got from Hobby Lobby or Michaels (again on sale)
Make A wish - Distress Ink - water color on the Sizzix Swirl Embossed background
Many Thanks - background distress ink over embossed background.  Folder is from Sizzix, not sure what it's called.

And, This one is from an really old Stampin Up floral layering set.
Pink And Green are Distress Inks stamped on Water Color paper then painted over with water to blend.
Such a fun and easy technique!
Happy Birthday is Heat Embossed over Vellum, just stuff I have in my stash.
I bought this (and several others) stamp set in the late 90s and early 2000s.  Still quite lovely!

So, as you can see I've been busy!
Happy Crafting!!!

Its Been A While

I've decided I want to try to start blogging again, focusing on crafty things.  Nothing fancy, nothing flashy, just what I'm doing with my Scrapbooking and my newest hobby, Card Making!  I have a few things to show you now, but I'll get this thing going and do some cool stuff.

I'll get better at product description and pictures in future posts.  For now, here's what I've been doing

I got a Lawn Fawn stamp set for Christmas just in time to make Valentine's day cards!
I'm just starting on my Copic Coloring, but it's sure fun!

I'm just now starting to scrapbook my WDW trip for Jake's Birthday in 2015.  Here's the title page!
I used my cricut for this one!  Mickey and Friends and Micky Font
The silhouettes of the parks were pieced together mostly from shapes from the Disney carts and misc shapes.  The tree is also all cricut, and the ornaments and lights were cut in heavy white card stock and then colored with Copics.  Turned out so awesome that I did the gifts that way too!  Saves time looking for all the paper in the right colors!

I hope to be back sharing my crafty side soon!  And, i'll probably throw some family news and happenings along the way too.

Have a Crafty Day!

Happy Mother's Day!!!

So, since we got back from our cruise on Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you!) we had little time (and money) to do a big Mother's day celebration.  However, my boy did good!

Cannot wait to get started on this!

Home made gifts ARE AWESOME!  Nice job Jake!

Happy Mother's Day!

Oh, and I've started blogging our Cruise Vacation, more later!

Getting Ready!!!

We have been running a muck getting ready for this Disney Cruise in 17 days!  :)  So, the best way I know to showcase this is of course with my nails!

From last week.  LOVE this look!  So very Mickey Mouse!
This was easy and FUN!

AND, Jake's Autograph book is now ready too!
This turned out so great! I hope it works out for the characters too!
I made it with 4x6 white card stock inside so I can take those pieces and put them in our big scrapbook, and will use this cover to make Jake one for him so he can take it to school and show his friends!
I did this with my Cricut and old stash paper from CM from ages ago!
I sure do wish CM would do Disney again, I miss that!

AND, this week, I went with the whole cast of Characters!
Mickey logo on the thumbs
Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and Tinkerbell on the left hand
Daisy, Donald, Goofy, and Nemo on the right.
LOVE THIS PINTEREST IDEA!!

Oh we just can't wait!
